Black Ops 7 Just Killed The Most Frustrating Part of Call Of Duty
The math finally makes sense for veteran grinders
I spent forty hours on a single AR camo in the last title. My wrists hurt and my rank barely moved. Then I read the new Black Ops 7 specs.
Treyarch cut the total headshot requirement from one hundred to eighty per weapon. That is a twenty percent reduction in pure tedium.
But here is the real kicker. The pacing curve is now linear after that first quick win.
You get your first camo after just five headshots. Then every ten kills thereafter.
Shotgun players finally get a fair shot at progression
For years we had to force headshots with a shotgun. It felt broken and forced.
Now they require Point Blank Kills for military camos. This matches the weapon's actual strength.
Sniper rifles work similarly with One Shot Kills. No more wasting clips for a single headshot.
If you want to see how this compares to other weapon types check out the seven camos that actually boost your win rate.

Campaign mode is now part of your camo collection strategy
This is the first time in Call of Duty history that campaign play counts toward weapon skins.
You can earn camos in Co-Op Campaign Multiplayer Zombies and Warzone at Season One.
I was skeptical at first. But if you enjoy the story this saves hours of repetitive multiplayer deathmatches.
It also means your progression is no longer locked to one specific game mode.
Special camos are now weapon specific and harder to share
Treyarch added a third special camo per weapon instead of two.
But they are now locked to that specific gun. You cannot equip them on other weapons anymore.
This kills the meta of swapping one rare camo across your entire loadout.
You will need to grind each gun individually for its unique flair. It is a deliberate design choice.

The open beta is coming soon and you need to prepare now
Early access starts October two for pre-order customers. The general public gets in on October five.
This is your chance to test the new pacing before the full release later this year.

Why this matters more than the new weapons reveal
New guns get attention but camos keep you playing for months.
By fixing the grind Treyarch is addressing the biggest complaint in modern shooters.
The hidden benefit for casual players
Lower barriers mean more people will finish their collections.
This creates a healthier ecosystem where progress feels earned not forced.
